{"id":127254,"date":"2026-02-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=127254"},"modified":"2026-02-18T16:28:20","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T05:28:20","slug":"jakara-reveals-secret-weapon-to-win-olympics-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/jakara-reveals-secret-weapon-to-win-olympics-gold\/","title":{"rendered":"Jakara reveals secret weapon to win Olympics gold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUPER skier Jakara Anthony had a secret weapon in three-time Olympic champion Jessica Fox to help her regain her golden glow at the Milan-Cortina Games.<\/p>\n<p>No Australian winter athlete had ever successfully defended their gold medal and Anthony also fell heartbreakingly short when she stumbled in the medal round of the individual moguls competition.<\/p>\n<p>But the Barwon Heads resident had a heavy-hitter to call on in six-time Olympic canoe medallist Fox, who embraced the winter scene so much she changed her flights to stay longer in Livigno.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/02\/2026021518001125264_29972.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"421\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jakara Anthony won the dual moguls big final against US skier Jaelin Kauf. Photo: Xinhua\/SIPA USA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As well as presenting medals to Cooper Woods and Scotty James in her role as a member of the IOC&#8217;s Athletes Commission, Fox has been a constant at events.<\/p>\n<p>She comforted Anthony when she fell devastatingly short and then celebrated wildly when the moguls ace bounced back to win gold in the dual moguls on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony said the pair had formed a special bond.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I was home injured last year, I went up and watched Jess and Noemie [Fox] race up in Penrith and I got to have some really good chats with Jess,&#8221; Anthony said after her race.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We talked about a few experiences we&#8217;ve had that are pretty similar and then she was here the other day when it didn&#8217;t go my way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She&#8217;s been in that exact same position before, so there&#8217;s not many people that have been in that position and can kind of understand and give advice, so I was really fortunate to have her here and then for her to be here today to see the turnaround, that was really special too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As well as sharing flag bearer advice after she led the team in Paris in 2022 and Anthony at these Winter Games, Fox said she told Anthony to &#8220;trust&#8221; herself that she&#8217;d done the work to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been really special to be here and watch her and support her,&#8221; Fox said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/02\/IMG_4507_VSCO_94812.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Australia&#8217;s Winter Olympics broadcast on Channel 9 crossed to the watch party at Torquay Taphouse. Photo: Supplied<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think for her, it&#8217;s always been really about doing good runs and putting down the best performance because she knows that when she does that, she&#8217;s got a good chance of being on top of the day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can&#8217;t control the result, you can only control what you&#8217;re putting out there in your performance and so if she just focuses on that, then the rest will come.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m sending all my good vibes to all the Aussies out here because what they&#8217;re doing is incredible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A big crowd gathered at Torquay Taphouse on Saturday for a dual moguls watch party, supported by Torquay-based business and Olympic team supplier XTM Performance.<\/p>\n<p>Channel 9 reporter Chris Stubbs was also onsite, with Australia&#8217;s Winter Olympics broadcast crossing live to the event.<\/p>\n<p>Torquay Taphouse&#8217;s Renae Ranger said nervous energy built throughout the night before erupting into pure excitement as Anthony was announced the winner.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/02\/IMG_4465_VSCO_62597.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The crowd at Torquay Taphouse watches themselves on TV.
