GEELONG United has paid tribute to star guard Jaz Shelley after the club and her decided to part ways today (Friday, 20 February).<\/p>\n
The decision follows what the club describes as “respectful and ongoing discussions between the two parties, with alignment on supporting the players next steps in her career”.<\/p>\n
Shelley spent two seasons on the United roster and was a key contributor.<\/p>\n
The 25-year-old earned NBL1 South MVP honours in 2025 after averaging 20.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 3.5 steals per game.<\/p>\n
Shelley’s leadership, competitiveness and genuine passion for the sport extended beyond the court and helped to grow basketball across Geelong.<\/p>\n
She was a dedicated coach and mentor within the VJBL pathway, and also made a substantial contribution through her community hours, engaging with schools, local clubs and grassroots initiatives.<\/p>\n
Shelley thanked the club for the opportunities it has provided her both on and off the court.<\/p>\n
“I leave Geelong with memories that will last a lifetime, including last year\u2019s undefeated regular season, many new friendships and the opportunity to immerse myself in this incredible community,” she said.<\/p>\n
“A sincere thank you to the club and community for embracing me and making it feel like home. I wish both nothing but the very best.\u201d<\/p>\n
Geelong United Basketball chief executive officer Mark Neeld congratulated Shelley for her two years in the blue and white.<\/p>\n
