{"id":127558,"date":"2026-02-26T04:00:58","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T17:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=127558"},"modified":"2026-02-25T18:37:39","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T07:37:39","slug":"lorne-turns-pink-for-a-top-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/lorne-turns-pink-for-a-top-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"Lorne turns pink for a top cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Lorne Cricket Club has posted its best fundraising result ever from its annual Pink Stumps Day, with close to $6,000 raised for the McGrath Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>More than 50 geople gathered to support the annual event at Stribling Reserve, with all proceeds providing vital support to people experiencing cancer and their families right across Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees sipped pink cocktails, wine and bubbles and got stuck into friendly competition to hit the pink themed cricket targets set up around the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Everything from the food and drinks, to the flowers, cupcakes, door prizes and decorations was entirely donated by the community.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron Nugent was the special guest MC on the day and shared his incredible story of honouring his late wife Skye.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 408px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/02\/633426284_8877731174_38586.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"408\" height=\"569\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cameron Nugent (centre) spoke about his courage mission to honour his late wife Skye.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Lorne local ran 155km from Melbourne to Lorne in 2023 raise vital funds for cancer research.<\/p>\n<p>His powerful display of courage helped to raise over $100,000 in Skye&#8217;s memory.<\/p>\n<p>Lorne Cricket Club player and event organiser Matt Cash said the Pink Stumps Day initiative is always an incredible showing of strength and generosity from the Lorne and Apollo Bay communities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was obviously a huge success and there was so much help from both coastal towns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s such a privilege to have this occasion. So many people are touched by cancer, and its a cause that the whole cricket community really get behind.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To almost double the donations from last year was just incredible.
