{"id":128583,"date":"2026-03-22T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=128583"},"modified":"2026-03-18T19:58:32","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T08:58:32","slug":"geelong-schools-join-ballarat-rivals-for-respect-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/geelong-schools-join-ballarat-rivals-for-respect-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong schools join Ballarat rivals for Respect Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TWO Geelong secondary schools have again taken part in the Respect Cup, using the annual football fixture to highlight gender equality and stand against community violence as part of International Women&#8217;s Day.<\/p>\n<p>Sacred Heart College and St Joseph&#8217;s College faced Ballarat rivals Loreto College and St Patricks College respectively in the sixth edition of the event, which brings students and staff together to promote respect and inclusion both on and off the field.<\/p>\n<p>Sacred Heart claimed the win over Loreto in the girls&#8217; match.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/03\/GroupPhoto_98026.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"384\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Joseph&#8217;s came away with a 6-point victory in the boys&#8217; match.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sacred Heart College co-captains Jayde Morrissy and Georgia Wall said the day reinforced the broader message behind the match.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Respect Cup has taught us to be bold, to be loud, and to never be afraid to take up space,&#8221; Wall said.<\/p>\n<p>Morrissy added: &#8220;The impact of female football shatters stereotypes and gives young women confidence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While celebrating their victory, the Sacred Heart leaders praised the &#8220;determination and energy&#8221; of runners-up Loreto College and thanked their allies at St Joseph&#8217;s and St Patrick&#8217;s for supporting the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>St Joseph&#8217;s College acting head of wellbeing programs Tom Breed said the event had strong backing from students across both schools.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2026\/03\/0X7A0847_edited_98133.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Joseph&#8217;s came away with a 6-point victory in the boys&#8217; match.
