{"id":128759,"date":"2026-03-24T10:13:33","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T23:13:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/writers-festival-debut-to-bring-national-authors-to-surf-coast\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T10:22:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T23:22:16","slug":"writers-festival-debut-to-bring-national-authors-to-surf-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/writers-festival-debut-to-bring-national-authors-to-surf-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"Writers festival debut to bring national authors to Surf Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Surf Coast will host one of Australia\u2019s most recognisable finance journalists this June, with Chris Kohler confirmed as the headline speaker at a new writers festival.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural Surf Coast Writers Festival will be held on Saturday 27 June at the RACV Torquay Resort.<\/p>\n<p>Kohler, Nine News finance editor, will speak about his new book How They Get You, which examines the tactics and psychological triggers that influence how people think, buy and behave.<\/p>\n<p>Known for his work across television, print and digital media, Kohler has built a national profile for breaking down complex economic issues in a clear and often witty way.<\/p>\n<p>The festival will feature a full day of author talks, panel discussions and workshops across genres including crime, fiction, memoir, poetry and young adult writing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-183226 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/03\/SCWF-Author-Announcement-scaled.png?_t=1774307403\" alt=\"\" width=\"839\" height=\"373\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other writers set to appear include multi-award-winning author Alli Sinclair, journalist and commentator on Middle Eastern affairs Antoun Issa, columnist Kate Halfpenny, and local crime writers Mark Smith and Tanya Scott.<\/p>\n<p>Workshops and panel sessions will cover topics including character development, publishing pathways and the craft of storytelling, while authors Sarah Bailey and J.P. Pomare will host a live recording on their podcast He Read, She Read.<\/p>\n<p>Organisers said the festival aimed to bring together established and emerging writers, while creating opportunities for readers and writers to connect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Surf Coast Writers Festival was created to celebrate storytelling in all its forms while building a creative and connected community,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re proud to showcase such an incredible mix of established and emerging voices, right here on the Surf Coast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tickets go on sale 3 April.
