{"id":128779,"date":"2026-03-24T14:46:31","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T03:46:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/gillys-new-venture-hits-local-pubs\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T18:54:03","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T07:54:03","slug":"gillys-new-venture-hits-local-pubs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/gillys-new-venture-hits-local-pubs\/","title":{"rendered":"Gilly\u2019s new venture hits local pubs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"746\" data-end=\"917\">Cricket legend Adam Gilchrist is heading to the region this weekend, bringing his new tequila venture to Grovedale, Barwon Heads and Torquay for a full day of appearances.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"919\" data-end=\"1099\">The former Australian wicketkeeper will start at the Grovedale Hotel from 10.30am, before heading to Barwon Heads Hotel from 12.30pm and finishing at Torquay Hotel from 4pm to 6pm.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1204\">Each stop gives locals the chance to meet him, grab a photo and sample his premium tequila, El Arquero.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1206\" data-end=\"1349\">Speaking on SEN Geelong\u2019s The Run Home with Worlo and Moons, Gilchrist shared the story behind the brand and what fans can expect this weekend.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1066\" data-end=\"1209\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border-radius: 12px;\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/episode\/6JoUeXxFU2nl5YBDUY5n9R?utm_source=generator&amp;theme=0\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-testid=\"embed-iframe\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1436\">The name itself carries a personal meaning, with a subtle nod to his cricketing past.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1532\">\u201cI thought if ever I do a tequila, I\u2019ll call it El Arquero, which translates to \u2018the keeper\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1534\" data-end=\"1565\">\u201cIt\u2019s a nice little throwback.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1567\" data-end=\"1661\">Gilchrist also joked the name was a little less obvious than some other cricket-branded drops.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1663\" data-end=\"1810\">\u201cIt\u2019s a lot more subtle than Ponting just putting his name on a wine label. I\u2019m making people work for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1812\" data-end=\"2014\">El Arquero has been crafted in Mexico\u2019s Jalisco highlands using traditional methods, with Gilchrist and his team partnering with a third-generation distillery to produce a premium, additive-free spirit.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2016\" data-end=\"2149\">\u201cI only had a desire to have it made in Mexico, authentically, traditional methods,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2151\" data-end=\"2316\">The result is a cleaner, smoother tequila designed to be sipped, mixed or enjoyed over ice, a far cry from the quick shots many Australians associate with the drink.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2318\" data-end=\"2469\">\u201cDon\u2019t make it the last drink of the night that you can\u2019t remember. Make it the first one you\u2019ll never forget.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2471\" data-end=\"2608\">Gilchrist\u2019s visit comes as excitement builds for a huge upcoming summer of cricket, with the 2026-27 schedule released earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2610\" data-end=\"2668\">\u201cUnbelievable amount. There\u2019s about 10 Tests in 14 weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2670\" data-end=\"2767\">\u201cIt\u2019s going to be very fast and packed around Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2769\" data-end=\"2913\">With a packed international schedule and a historic 150-year Test match celebration on the horizon, cricket fans have plenty to look forward to.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2915\" data-end=\"3055\">For now though, attention turns to the Bellarine and surrounding region, where fans can meet one of Australia\u2019s greats in a relaxed setting.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3057\" data-end=\"3181\">\u201cLooking forward to getting down around the Geelong and Torquay region.
