{"id":129491,"date":"2026-04-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=129491"},"modified":"2026-04-09T09:05:31","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T23:05:31","slug":"the-gordon-lauded-for-garden-talent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/the-gordon-lauded-for-garden-talent\/","title":{"rendered":"The Gordon lauded for garden talent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>STUDENTS and staff at The Gordon have secured gold, silver and excellence awards at this year&#8217;s Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, the Southern Hemisphere&#8217;s largest horticultural event.<\/p>\n<p>Certificate III in Horticulture students Megan Blair, Sarah Jones and Georgina Honner achieved outstanding success in the Challenger Achievable Gardens competition, securing a Gold Award, Best Construction and an Excellence Award for their collaborative design, A Woman&#8217;s Garden.<\/p>\n<p>The garden represents the feminine connection to nature and the role it plays in nourishment and connection. Designed as an invitation to come together, in a soft, welcoming and spacious space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This event is an incredible opportunity to showcase skills in a way that is rarely accessible. To be part of the third largest garden show in the world and bring a design to fruition in this environment has been amazing,&#8221; the trio said.&#8221;We are so grateful for the opportunity to be exposed to professionals and connect with people in the industry that we&#8217;ve admired for years. It&#8217;s something that would not have been possible otherwise,&#8221; the students said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/IMG_2712_20090.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Floristry teacher Natalie Raffaele won gold in the Floral Design competition. Photo: Supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Certificate III in Horticulture student Jack Dalton was also recognised, receiving a Silver Award in the Challenger Achievable Gardens competition for his design Suzy&#8217;s Sanctuary, a homely backyard inspired by his childhood.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on elements from his hometown in Northern Territory, the garden reflects personal storytelling and the importance of outdoor spaces in wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>Adding to The Gordon&#8217;s success, floristry teacher Natalie Raffaele was awarded Gold in the Floral Design competition.<\/p>\n<p>Her vibrant and artistic response to this year&#8217;s theme, Kaleidoscope, demonstrated her innate flair for creativity, colour and technical excellence.<\/p>\n<p>The Gordon acting chief executive, Lisa Barton, said the results highlighted the value of applied learning.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/IMG_2839_20013.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jack Dalton received silver in the Challenger Achievable Gardens competition for his design Suzy\u2019s Sanctuary.
