{"id":129643,"date":"2026-04-15T12:33:46","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T02:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=129643"},"modified":"2026-04-15T12:33:46","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T02:33:46","slug":"mark-blicavs-300th-game-geelong-stewart-praise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/mark-blicavs-300th-game-geelong-stewart-praise\/","title":{"rendered":"Tom Stewart on Blicavs\u2019 300th milestone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Geelong veteran Mark Blicavs is set to celebrate his 300th AFL game this Friday night, with teammate Tom Stewart leading the tributes ahead of the milestone clash at GMHBA Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on SEN Breakfast, Stewart painted a vivid picture of the man behind one of football\u2019s most unique careers, describing Blicavs as central to the club\u2019s culture both on and off the field.<\/p>\n<p><iframe data-testid=\"embed-iframe\" style=\"border-radius:12px\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/episode\/28Lfh8WjZ2ewsmoXMIB84o?utm_source=generator\" width=\"100%\" height=\"152\" frameBorder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He\u2019s a character, he\u2019s a connector and he\u2019s probably the life of the party off field.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But he\u2019s a magnificent person.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Blicavs\u2019 journey from Olympic steeplechaser to AFL mainstay has been widely celebrated, but Stewart said his greatest strength lies in his ability to bring people together.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He has this remarkable ability to be able to find a rapport with anybody from our oldest player on our list to a kid who\u2019s finding his way in their first year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He\u2019s a special human who is a really, really good man.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That connection has translated into his on-field value, with Blicavs\u2019 versatility making him one of the most important players in Geelong\u2019s system.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He\u2019s always had that happy knack of just impacting on every position that he finds himself in.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He holds that in high regard in his ability to impact games in every single phase of the game, offence, defence, transition, stoppage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stewart also highlighted the personal bond he shares with Blicavs, forged through both success and adversity across their time at the club.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019ve relied on him as much as any of my teammates over the journey, not only a teammate on field, but somebody that I can confide in.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019ve shared the ultimate in winning a premiership together, but we\u2019ve also had some tough pills to swallow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While full of praise, Stewart joked there is at least one flaw in Blicavs\u2019 game.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He\u2019s definitely the best player I\u2019ve ever played with that doesn\u2019t know which foot he\u2019s actually dominant on.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As Geelong prepares to honour Blicavs under lights, Stewart said the occasion will be fitting recognition for a player who has given so much to the club.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think you\u2019ll see him well and truly celebrated in accordance to that on Friday night.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geelong veteran Mark Blicavs is set to celebrate his 300th AFL game this Friday night, with teammate Tom Stewart leading the tributes ahead of the milestone clash at GMHBA Stadium.
