LOCAL community groups have until late May to apply for a slice of a $24,000 grant pool designed to keep Geelong’s over 55s active and connected.<\/p>\n

The City of Greater Geelong’s positive ageing grants program offers up to $1,000 per applicant to support initiatives ranging from workshops and dances to sporting events and intergenerational projects.<\/p>\n

The program aims to combat social isolation and promote mental wellbeing by encouraging residents to remain involved in community life as they age. Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the funding is about ensuring the city remains inclusive for residents of all ages.<\/p>\n

“Growing older shouldn’t mean giving up on hobbies, activities and experiences that make us happy,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Through our positive ageing grants, we’re supporting local groups and organisations who make sure people aged 55 and over continue to feel included in our community.”<\/p>\n

Applications are open to local organisations that facilitate experiences for those aged 55 and over, with a particular focus on physical activity and socialisation.<\/p>\n

Interested groups are encouraged to attend an information session, either in person at the Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct or online, on Monday 20 April between 4pm and 5pm to streamline their applications.<\/p>\n

Applications close at 5pm on 25 May, with successful groups to be notified in mid-July.<\/p>\n
