{"id":129811,"date":"2026-04-17T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=129811"},"modified":"2026-04-15T22:31:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T12:31:53","slug":"blake-paveys-got-more-time-now-he-needs-more-jokes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/living\/blake-paveys-got-more-time-now-he-needs-more-jokes\/","title":{"rendered":"Blake Pavey&#8217;s got more time \u2013 now he needs more jokes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AFTER being told his terminal illness is no longer terminal, comedian Blake Pavey has found himself with something unexpected: time.<\/p>\n<p>And with it, a whole new angle for his comedy.<\/p>\n<p>Keen to ditch the doom and gloom, the 24-year-old will bring his stand-up show A Bit Scared to Geelong Arts Centre on 23 May.<\/p>\n<p>Pavey, who lives with cystic fibrosis \u2013 a genetic condition that primarily affects the lungs \u2013 recently received the life-changing news that his illness is no longer considered terminal.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than dwell on it, he&#8217;s turning the shift into fresh material, diving headfirst into the things that now scare him.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/04\/500117316_1204164424_08923.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Blake Pavey will bring his new stand-up show A Bit Scared to the Geelong Arts Centre on 23 May. Photo: Supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With more than a million followers online, Pavey has built a reputation for sharp, self-aware humour that the kind of delivery that leaves audiences in stitches.<\/p>\n<p>Now, with more time on his side, Pavey is keen to make it count.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One would be really happy with that news, however now I have to get some new material which gives me the s***s,&#8221; he joked. &#8220;Now the medication is working well, I&#8217;m going to have to live a bit longer!<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m looking forward to going through what&#8217;s scaring me in the news, topical things and all the rest of it. There will be a bit in there on AI and even 15 minutes of self-indulgent talk about my girlfriend.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s usually something different every night, so buckle in and lets not just talk about cystic fibrosis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pavey&#8217;s sophomore solo show Still Kickin&#8217; proved a hit across Australia, clocking up 59 performances, and he has since taken his act to New Zealand and the UK. Photo: Supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the growing profile, he says Geelong remains a favourite stop on the tour circuit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been five or six years of doing comedy, I don&#8217;t feel like a baby so much anymore. Everything has grown so fast,&#8221; Pavey said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I love coming to Geelong. I&#8217;ve been to the Sphinx a few times for gigs.
