GEELONG Falcons captain Noah Williams has strengthened his AFL draft prospects with a pair of composed performances for the AFL Academy under-18 side against VFL opposition.<\/p>\n
Williams was named best afield in the academy’s 71-point loss to North Melbourne earlier this month, before backing it up with another impressive outing against Richmond last Sunday.<\/p>\n
In the clash with the Kangaroos, the 18-year-old collected 17 disposals, eight tackles and four clearances, splitting his time between the midfield and half-back.<\/p>\n
He impressed with his tenacity at stoppages but was also able to display his poise and drive with his left foot across the backline.<\/p>\n
He had less of the ball against Richmond, finishing with 12 disposals, three tackles and a goal, but again caught the eye with his decision-making under pressure and ability to use the ball effectively by hand and foot.<\/p>\n
With the draft approaching, Williams remains firmly in top 10 contention, with his academy form reinforcing his standing among the leading prospects.<\/p>\n
Fellow Falcon and key forward Jack Pickett is also part of the AFL Academy squad, but is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season after suffering an ACL injury last month.<\/p>\n
Despite the setback, Pickett remains in draft contention following an impressive start to the year.<\/p>\n
Williams will now return to his role as Falcons captain, with the side opening its Talent League campaign with three wins from four games.<\/p>\n
