{"id":130678,"date":"2026-05-08T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=130678"},"modified":"2026-05-08T11:11:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T01:11:21","slug":"native-blooms-and-classic-pinks-top-mothers-day-floral-trends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/native-blooms-and-classic-pinks-top-mothers-day-floral-trends\/","title":{"rendered":"Native blooms and classic pinks top Mother&#8217;s Day floral trends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MOTHER&#8217;S Day has become one of the biggest dates on the retail calendar and, for florists, it often marks the end of the busiest stretch of the year.<\/p>\n<p>At Torquay Florist, the lead-up to the day is a familiar mix of pressure, planning and plenty of petals, with staff saying the rush arrives all at once after a steady run through Valentine&#8217;s Day and wedding season.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s one of the two big days we&#8217;ve got in the year,&#8221; florist Tull said. &#8220;A lot rides on it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She said the season can be &#8220;slightly insane&#8221;, but also rewarding, with the shop&#8217;s order book filling fast and the final weekend before Mother&#8217;s Day always the most intense.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All of a sudden, it&#8217;s everything all at once,&#8221; Tully said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It keeps me toes, and I love it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/05\/TorquayFloristLandsc_11039.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steph, Tully and Rylee have been busy getting bouquets ready for Mother&#8217;s Day. Photo: Nyah Barnes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rylee, who has been at Torquay Florist since owner Courtney Ward opened the store, estimated around 70 per cent of Mother&#8217;s Day orders are placed in advance, with the remaining walk-ins often racing in to secure what is left.<\/p>\n<p>The florists said pre-orders help them manage stock and avoid waste, particularly because they like to sell out rather than have flowers sitting around afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to style, pinks and purples remain firm favourites for Mother&#8217;s Day, with many customers still drawn to classic soft-toned arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s just how it&#8217;s always been,&#8221; Tully said.<\/p>\n<p>But along the Surf Coast, natives have also become a strong favourite.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They love native blooms,&#8221; staff member Steph said, pointing to the popularity of wattle.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/05\/TorquayFloristPics-1_13085.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pinks and purples are consistently popular around Mother&#8217;s Day.
