LOCAL community groups and non-profits are being invited to apply for a share of a $20,000 funding pool to celebrate the region’s youngest residents during Children’s Week.<\/p>\n
The City of Greater Geelong has opened applications for its Children’s Week grants, offering up to $1,000 per project to support events that connect children aged up to 12 and their families.<\/p>\n
The national celebration, which runs from 24 October to 1 November, focuses on the rights, talents and achievements of young people.<\/p>\n
Eligible organisations can apply for funding to host a variety of activities, including yoga, cooking classes, dance and nature-based learning.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the grants are designed to ensure local children have access to fun, inclusive and safe spaces.<\/p>\n
“Children’s Week is about celebrating our smallest residents and ensuring they have safe spaces to learn and grow,” he said.<\/p>\n
The city’s finance portfolio chair Cr Andrew Katos encouraged local organisations to take advantage of the support on offer.<\/p>\n
“Grant funding provides a helping hand for our local groups and organisations doing terrific work in our community,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Our grants team is here to make sure you have the information you need to feel confident applying.”<\/p>\n
Applications for the grants close at 5pm on 22 June, with successful applicants to be notified in August.<\/p>\n
An online information session for prospective applicants will be held on Tuesday 19 May.<\/p>\n
