{"id":132409,"date":"2026-06-19T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=132409"},"modified":"2026-06-17T21:59:37","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T11:59:37","slug":"perfect-set-surf-coast-goes-4-0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/perfect-set-surf-coast-goes-4-0\/","title":{"rendered":"Perfect set: Surf Coast goes 4-0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG sporting history was made on Saturday night as Eternal MMA 107 delivered a landmark event at Geelong Arena, becoming the first professional mixed martial arts promotion to stage a cage event in the city.<\/p>\n<p>More than 2,000 fans packed the venue, highlighting the growing appetite for combat sports across the region and helping cement Geelong&#8217;s place on the national MMA calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Eternal MMA promoter Cam O&#8217;Neill said the Geelong community had embraced the event from the outset.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Geelong turned up,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After spending four days in Geelong and the Bellarine last week, I am positive we have made the right decision to commit to three Eternal MMA events annually in G-Town.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a blue-collar town with a population that loves sports, and we have had so much love and support in the lead-up to our first event.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The night featured several historic moments, none bigger than the first professional women&#8217;s bout contested in Geelong. The Great Ocean Road derby between Torquay&#8217;s Kim Tran and Warrnambool&#8217;s Alish Smith lived up to expectations, with both athletes trading heavy shots in a spirited contest.<\/p>\n<p>After weathering an early storm from Smith, Tran rallied with trademark pressure and power, unleashing a wave of offence in the second round to force a TKO stoppage. The Torquay fighter then grabbed the microphone and issued a call-out to UFC president Dana White demanding her contract, sending the crowd into a frenzy.<\/p>\n<p>The Surf Coast enjoyed a perfect night inside the cage, finishing 4-0 across the night.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2026\/06\/E107F1ANAARVANVSZARA_97872.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rising prospect Ana Arvan (right) showed remarkable courage before she even stepped into the cage. Photos: Eternal MMA.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Feature prelim fighter Kourosh Arvan needed just one round to make his statement, flattening Western Australia&#8217;s Luke Matchett with a spectacular knockout.<\/p>\n<p>Former Tigers footballer Hayden Cook dug deep in a hard-fought contest against Combat One&#8217;s Fatih Turer, with a vocal contingent of Surf Coast supporters helping drive him to victory.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, rising prospect Ana Arvan showed remarkable courage before she even stepped into the cage. The 18-year-old suffered a severe cut after biting through her bottom lip during her warm-up but pushed through adversity to compete.<\/p>\n<p>Once the fight began, Arvan put the setback behind her and delivered a dominant striking performance against her Sunshine Coast opponent.<\/p>\n<p>The success of Eternal MMA&#8217;s Geelong debut has already paved the way for its return.<\/p>\n<p>Promoters confirmed Eternal MMA will head back at Geelong Arena on 22 August, headlined by a welterweight title showdown between Sam Marles and Loni Filimohala. Marles, son of federal defence minister Richard Marles, is expected to attract strong local interest, while several Surf Coast and Torquay favourites are also tipped to feature on the card.<\/p>\n<p>Excitement is already building among local supporters eager to see which hometown fighters will be added to the card in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>If Saturday night&#8217;s event was any indication, Eternal MMA has well and truly planted its flag in Geelong.
