{"id":29583,"date":"2020-01-02T00:00:20","date_gmt":"2020-01-01T14:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/world-game-fund-opens-to-community-clubs\/"},"modified":"2020-01-02T00:00:20","modified_gmt":"2020-01-01T14:00:20","slug":"world-game-fund-opens-to-community-clubs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/world-game-fund-opens-to-community-clubs\/","title":{"rendered":"World Game Fund opens to community clubs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SOCCER clubs around Victoria can now apply for the state government&#8217;s World Game Facilities Fund.<\/p>\n<div>An extra $20 million was recently added to the fund to help improve the quality and accessibility of community soccer infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Football Victoria chief executive officer Peter Filopoulos said the fund would help ensure that people wanting to play would not be denied by a lack of adequate facilities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u201cParticipation in the world game continues rise across Victoria, driven particularly by more girls and women wanting to play football.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u201cWe know that the game will need up to 420 full-size equivalent pitches by 2026 just to keep up with population growth and consistently strong participation numbers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;As many as 12,000 players missed out on playing football last year because clubs across Victoria didn\u2019t have the facilities to cater for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Before the announcement of the added funds, Surf Coast Football Club had already been promised $2 million from the fund for improved facilities on the condition they could raise $100,000 themselves.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>The club is presently raising the money with the Surf Coast Shire having agreed to underwrite the club&#8217;s contribution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>This would see additional change rooms, a social space and two grandstands added to Banyul Warri Fields Pavilion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>There are plenty opportunities for clubs in the region to still apply for grants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>These can go towards improvements such as lighting, pitch redevelopments, synthetic pitches and female friendly change rooms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Clubs can apply at <a href=\"http:\/\/sport.vic.gov.au\/grants-and-funding\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>sport.vic.gov.au\/grants-and-funding<\/b><\/a>.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SOCCER clubs around Victoria can now apply for the state government&#8217;s World Game Facilities Fund.
