{"id":29615,"date":"2020-01-02T11:33:48","date_gmt":"2020-01-02T01:33:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=29615"},"modified":"2020-01-02T15:31:24","modified_gmt":"2020-01-02T05:31:24","slug":"borough-queenscliffe-nelson-rd-footpath","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/borough-queenscliffe-nelson-rd-footpath\/","title":{"rendered":"Borough of Queenscliffe burrows down on footpath"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Borough of Queenscliffe is making residents\u2019 ideas a reality, completing a footpath on Nelson Road one month after it was suggested during November\u2019s budget consultation.<\/p>\n<p>More than 300 residents took part in the budget consultation in November, including four respondents who suggested council build the new footpath.<\/p>\n<p>Council engineers used existing funding to get the project under way immediately, with the footpath completed one month later in a \u201clightning-fast\u201d turnaround. \u201cResidents told us this footpath should be a priority for council, and we\u2019ve responded by getting straight to work,\u201d mayor Ross Ebbels said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to thank John, David, Noelene and Felicity for suggesting this fantastic idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two of the residents who suggested the improvement, John Hocking and David Jarman, were on hand to help Cr Ebbels open the footpath.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was excited to see council act on my idea so quickly,\u201d Mr Hocking said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new footpath will make Nelson Road safer for everyone, and shows that council is really listening to the ideas we put forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cr Ebbels said council\u2019s quick action implementing the feedback from residents showed the Borough was taking community consultation seriously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new footpath is the first of many improvements we\u2019ll be making in response to resident input.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to turning more of these ideas into real projects as we put together our budget next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new footpath will make it safer for residents to access the Point Lonsdale Medical Centre, and includes bollards to separate pedestrians and traffic.<\/p>\n<p>The area will also feature new native plants when the cooler planting season begins next year.
