Beachgoers are asked to be mindful when swimming along the Surf Coast today with several beaches closing because of dangerous surf.<\/p>\n
Patrolled beaches at Barwon Heads, Thirteenth Beach and Fairhaven beach were closed in the early afternoon due to large waves predicted and dangerous conditions, Life Saving Victoria lifesaving operations manager Liam Krige said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMake sure you are aware of the risks and dangers of beaches you are visiting today.<\/p>\n
\u201cDangerous surf at several Surf Coast beaches is presenting unsafe conditions for people recreating around the water as well as the lifesavers who patrol the beaches looking out for them, which is why a decision has been made to close them today.\u201d<\/p>\n
Life Saving Victoria would reassess surf conditions in the regions again tomorrow, Mr Krige said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge Victorians to carefully consider their own abilities near the water and to be aware of how powerful the ocean can be. he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSwim between the flags wherever possible, never swim alone, know the conditions by visiting beachsafe.org.au and know your own abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n
