{"id":29705,"date":"2020-01-09T00:00:08","date_gmt":"2020-01-08T14:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=29705"},"modified":"2020-01-09T00:00:08","modified_gmt":"2020-01-08T14:00:08","slug":"tim-gates-classic-celebrates-10th-year-running","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/tim-gates-classic-celebrates-10th-year-running\/","title":{"rendered":"Tim Gates Classic celebrates 10th year running"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 700 people participated in the 10th annual Tim Gates Classic Fun Run\/Walk at Fairhaven Beach on Sunday.<\/p>\n<div>The funds raised from the event went to the Tim Gates Foundation, which helps young lifesavers to develop their skills and improve beach safety.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Tim &#8220;Gatesy&#8221; Gates was a dedicated member of Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club who died in a a surfing accident at Fairhaven Beach in 2008.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>The Tim Gates Classic was established in his honour in 2010.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Race organiser Gabby McKeown said the club was delighted with the event&#8217;s reception.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>&#8220;We are so happy with the run for 2020. With participants from all age groups (oldest being 78), it is a great way for the club to reflect on everything that Gatesy did for Fairhaven. So many people come down every year just for the Tim Gates Run, which is a testament to what he meant to so many people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>While the final figure is yet to be confirmed, it is expected the event raised about $20,000 for the Tim Gates Foundation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>More than 600 people competed in the five-kilometre run alone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Running wonderkid Alexander Angus won the male category with a time of 18 minutes and 34 seconds. Angus was also competing in the Under 18 category<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Annabelle Shannon won the female category, finishing in 21 minutes and 36 seconds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>The 10-kilometre male category run was won by Michael Kernahan, who won comfortably with a time of 33 minutes and six seconds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>The female category was won by Amelia Moore, finishing in 47 minutes and 33 seconds.
