{"id":30243,"date":"2020-02-06T00:00:29","date_gmt":"2020-02-05T14:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/rotary-gearing-up-for-motor-show\/"},"modified":"2020-02-06T00:00:29","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T14:00:29","slug":"rotary-gearing-up-for-motor-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/rotary-gearing-up-for-motor-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Rotary gearing up for motor show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Torquay Annual Rotary Motor Show will be held at Elephant Walk this Sunday (February 9).<\/p>\n<p>Now in its 12th edition, the show will feature more than 450 unique vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Event organiser Gary Grant said he was anticipating a fantastic day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe event brings a lot of interest, and we\u2019re doing a few extra things this year which is certainly pushing a few buttons for some people who haven\u2019t been before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many of these people are likely to be motorcycle enthusiasts, as this year the show will feature a range of historical motorcycles from private collections, some of which have not been seen in the region before.<\/p>\n<p>Fittingly, the show\u2019s theme this year is the \u201cHallam Dynasty\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the greatest Australian engineers are part of the Hallam family and local to the region.<\/p>\n<p>Frank Hallam was responsible for building the Repco engines that powered Jack Brabham to two Formula 1 drivers\u2019 championships in the late 1960s.<\/p>\n<p>Hallam\u2019s son Paul would continue his legacy and become a highly regarded motorcycle engineer.<\/p>\n<p>Paul sadly passed away last year. In his memory, the Rotary Club of Torquay will award the new Perpetual Trophy to the best motorcycle in the show.<\/p>\n<p>The Great Ocean Road Cruise will take place on Saturday, February 8.<\/p>\n<p>Owners of a variety of vehicles, some of which will feature at the show the following day, will meet at 3pm at Lorne Car Park and cruise up the Great Ocean Road to Torquay.<\/p>\n<p>The Rotary club members who organise and run the event are all volunteers, with all the proceeds from the day going to the Rotary Club of Torquay.<\/p>\n<p>The show will begin at 8am, with the award presentations being held between 2-3pm.<\/p>\n<p>People can book by heading to <a href=\"http:\/\/trybooking.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">trybooking.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Torquay Annual Rotary Motor Show will be held at Elephant Walk this Sunday (February 9).
