SPRING Creek Reserve will host the inaugural Torquay Masters Netball Tournament next month.<\/p>\n

The tournament will categories for people 35-44-year-olds and people 45 and over.<\/p>\n

Event organiser Rachel Baulch said the March 1 tournament would see players who have competed in Pan Pacific Masters games and others who have not picked up a netball in years, so skill level should not prevent people from registering.<\/p>\n

“It’s open to players of all abilities. I encourage entries from players that haven’t played for a while to give it a go.”<\/p>\n

The tournament will be held in a round-robin format, with games consisting of two 10-minute halves. Each category will also have finals.<\/p>\n

Ms Baulch said organisers were looking to foster an enjoyable and socially inclusive atmosphere.<\/p>\n

“The emphasis is on a social, fun day, but there’s always a fun competitiveness as well.”<\/p>\n

Families and friends are welcome to spectate and enjoy the day too.<\/p>\n

The canteen will be open and there will also be a barbecue at the event.<\/p>\n

Teams can have anywhere from 7-11 players. To enter a team is $150.<\/p>\n

Part of the reason the tournament has been able to keep fees this low is because of funding they received from the Surf Coast Shire’s Small Grants program. This has also helped event organisers get qualified umpires for the game and provide prizes for the winning teams.<\/p>\n

The day will run from 9am-4am.<\/p>\n

Individuals are also encouraged to contact the organisers, as teams may be created.<\/p>\n
