COMMUNITY Clubs Victoria (CCV) recently announced that the combined totals of its member clubs fundraising efforts for the bushfire relief efforts have exceed $500,000.<\/p>\n
Torquay SLSC is one of the CCV members to contribute to this total.<\/p>\n
While the Surf Coast was not directly affected by the bushfires, Torquay SLSC saw the need to help lifesaving clubs less fortunate than their own.<\/p>\n
When they got together with neighbouring club Jan Juc SLSC for their annual “friendly” competition, the club held a raffle to raise funds for Mallacoota SLSC, who had lost much of their equipment in the fires.<\/p>\n
Torquay SLSC fundraising director Lanie Conquest said they were happy to help a club in great need.<\/p>\n
“The funds will be used to fund new lifesaving equipment for the local primary school’s Nippers Program that the Surf Club runs.<\/p>\n
“It’s our small way of helping them out during their recovery period – from our Nippers to theirs.”<\/p>\n
Together the clubs raised more than $650 for Mallacoota SLSC.<\/p>\n
CCV president Leon Wiegard praised the contribution of the member clubs that helped contribute.<\/p>\n
“Our clubs don’t just service the community, they are the community, and it’s been fantastic to see that spirit encapsulated in their response to this crisis.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
