{"id":30589,"date":"2020-03-05T00:00:02","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T14:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=30589"},"modified":"2020-03-05T00:00:02","modified_gmt":"2020-03-04T14:00:02","slug":"musical-thunder-to-roll-into-geelong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/living\/musical-thunder-to-roll-into-geelong\/","title":{"rendered":"Musical thunder to roll into Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The acclaimed Australian concert drama <em>Rolling Thunder Vietnam \u2013 Songs That Defined A Generation<\/em> is making its return to stage, stopping off at the Geelong Arts Centre on March 13 and 14 for three shows. <\/p>\n<p>Inspired by interviews with Vietnam War veterans, letters and research, the production \u2013 written by Bryce Hallett \u2013 has been praised for its use of music and video footage to deliver emotive storytelling.<\/p>\n<p>Under the musical direction of Chong Lim, it\u2019s no surprise that audiences and critics alike are barging through the doors to see it live for the first time since 2016. <\/p>\n<p>Announcing the 2020 season of Rolling Thunder Vietnam, producer Rebecca Blake said the show had formed a \u201cspecial relationship\u201d with audiences since its humble beginnings. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe great songs of the era and the passionate story of resilience and love at the heart if Rolling Thunder struck a chord with audiences throughout Australia. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince 2016, many people have kept asking when the production would return. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incredibly emotional responses from the veterans and their families have been overwhelming, and it\u2019s an honour to bring the show that has come to mean so much to them, back to the stage. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe production appeals to a wide audience and young audiences love the music and storytelling as much as anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rolling Thunder Vietnam features rock classics from the \u201860s and \u201870s, including \u201cFortunate Son\u201d, \u201cAll Along The Watchtower\u201d, \u201cThe Letter\u201d, \u201cHelp Me Make It Through The Night\u201d, \u201cKilling Me Softly\u201d and \u201cBridge Over Troubled Water\u201d, with the cast comprising Toby Francis (Once, Kinky Boots), Tom Oliver (Velvet) and Matthew Pearce (Rent, Calamity Jane). <\/p>\n<p>Show times at the Geelong Arts Centre include 7.30pm on March 13 and 14 and a matinee on March 14 (2pm).
