DRYSDALE’S SpringDale Neighbourhood Centre<\/a> is embracing diversity as part of national Harmony Week (March 15-21) and is inviting residents to come and join in the March 20 celebrations.<\/p>\n

SpringDale\u2019s Agata Commisso said the Friday evening event, starting at 5pm, will showcase the region\u2019s \u201cstrong spirit\u201d of inclusiveness.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to celebrate Harmony Week<\/a> and show a sense of belonging for everyone. Our event is to remind the community why our cultural diversity is one of our area\u2019s greatest assets and we are stronger because of it,\u201d Ms Commisso said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be music, homemade international food and time to make new friends. It will be great for everyone, no matter who they are or where they\u2019re from, to come along and have fun and appreciate that our differences make our community a great place to live.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barbara Hudson, who facilitates the Friday men\u2019s cooking class, said SpringDale was a wonderful place for the community to make new connections.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of the men that come along are by themselves for the first time. It\u2019s the first time they\u2019re learning how to cook and use different equipment and recipes,\u201d Ms Hudson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s also an excellent opportunity for them to surround themselves with others in a similar situation. They try the recipes they learn at home and say how helpful they find the class.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Commisso said they would be sharing photos from their Harmony Week celebrations across social media using the tags #harmonyweek and #everyonebelongs.<\/p>\n
