SURFING Victoria and URBNSURF held Australia\u2019s first ever wave pool competition on Sunday, albeit without spectators due to concerns over the coronavirus.<\/p>\n
Tully Wylie won the Men\u2019s Open. He narrowly beat Xavier Huxtable in a final that included fellow Surf Coast competitors Harry Mann and Todd Rosewall.<\/p>\n
Wylie said he enjoyed the new challenge the wave pool offered.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat was so nerve-wracking. That\u2019s what is so good about this format, though. It puts pressure on you to perform and it\u2019s super exciting to watch as a spectator.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just stoked to get a win.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Surf Coast was also well represented in the Open Women\u2019s category, with India Robinson taking victory.<\/p>\n
Robertson had only returned from the Sydney Surf Pro the night before and was in brilliant form to defeat some strong competition.<\/p>\n
Robertson said the wave pool provided a great challenge for competitors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was such a sick event. It was amazing to be a part of it.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe waves are so fun at URBNSURF, everything from turns to tubes. I\u2019m looking forward to competing here again.\u201d<\/p>\n
Barwon Heads\u2019 Ellie Harrison finished third, while Jan Juc\u2019s Mia Huppatz and Bella Wilson also made the final.<\/p>\n
Torquay\u2019s Angela King won the Open Women\u2019s Longboard, while Barwon Heads\u2019 Ben Considine won the Open Men\u2019s Longboard event.<\/p>\n
