BARWON Health Foundation recently launched a Coronavirus Emergency Response Fund to aid the health service in dealing with the pandemic.<\/p>\n

The fund has set the initial target of raising $1 million, and has already raised more than 10 per cent of the total.<\/p>\n

This money will go towards increasing the capacity of clinics, the purchase of medical equipment, co-ordinating volunteers and supporting Barwon Health’s infectious disease team.<\/p>\n

South Barwon Labor MP Darren Cheeseman said these funds would supplement what the state government was already contributing.<\/p>\n

“Barwon Health’s response to treating and testing possible COVID-19 patients will be funded from its operational budget – topped up with additional activity funding as needed.<\/p>\n

“Additional capacity will be created at Barwon Health by recommissioning Baxter House to be used for consulting rooms and treatment spaces, as part of the government’s $437 million COVID-19 health system response package.”<\/p>\n

Barwon Health noted the coronavirus would have an effect across all of healthcare, as the pandemic would strain its resources.<\/p>\n

Mr Cheeseman said further investment would be given if needed.<\/p>\n

“The department will continue to work closely with Barwon Health during this pandemic to monitor the impact and provide further assistance where required.”<\/p>\n

As of Monday morning, the fund had received 64 donations and raised $139,455.<\/p>\n
