{"id":31280,"date":"2020-04-02T00:41:10","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T14:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=31280"},"modified":"2020-04-01T21:43:21","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T11:43:21","slug":"geelong-community-leadership-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/geelong-community-leadership-program\/","title":{"rendered":"City works to educate future leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong has announced the 13 graduates who successfully completed the council\u2019s first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geelongaustralia.com.au\/news\/item\/8d76cd91bcd6ac7.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Community Leadership Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-week course \u2013 which began in July last year \u2013 was tailored for local residents and focused on learning new skills, building confidence, networking and advocacy.<\/p>\n<p>Although the planned commemorative ceremony last week could not go ahead due to the coronavirus, graduates will receive official certificates to mark the achievement.<\/p>\n<p>Those who earned a place in the inaugural program were asked to pitch a \u201cnovel project idea\u201d aimed at benefitting the community.<\/p>\n<p>The 13 successful participants were mentored by City of Greater Geelong leaders, including the mayor, councillors and directors.<\/p>\n<p>Activities included musical workshops in Corio and Norlane, a neighbourhood walk in Waurn Ponds and a community stakeholder meeting in Ocean Grove.<\/p>\n<p>The graduates are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kambiz Ahadpour<\/li>\n<li>Luke Anderson<\/li>\n<li>Emma Bottomley<\/li>\n<li>Ian Campbell<\/li>\n<li>Bel Campbell<\/li>\n<li>Azadeh Doosti<\/li>\n<li>Josh MacKay<\/li>\n<li>Helen Mahar<\/li>\n<li>Alex Marshall<\/li>\n<li>Ali Shaterzadeh<\/li>\n<li>Jennifer Tuck<\/li>\n<li>Vicky Dunmore, and<\/li>\n<li>Mukhles Habash.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher offered her congratulations to the Community Leadership Program graduates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a pleasure to work with the participants and help their visions become reality,\u201d Cr Asher said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCouncil is proud to provide programs that support future leaders and nurture bold ideas that benefit the community.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong has announced the 13 graduates who successfully completed the council\u2019s first Community Leadership Program.
