{"id":31507,"date":"2020-04-09T00:00:05","date_gmt":"2020-04-08T14:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/surfs-up-lenses-out\/"},"modified":"2020-04-09T09:26:55","modified_gmt":"2020-04-08T23:26:55","slug":"surfs-up-lenses-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/living\/surfs-up-lenses-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Surf&#8217;s up, lenses out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Torquay-based photographer has created an Instagram handle to connect the field\u2019s amateurs and professionals in one user-friendly place.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>@lifeonthesurfcoast<\/strong> was founded by Alex Newbould, a wedding and surf photographer who moved to the region from Essex about four years ago.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Alex said he\u2019d been wanting to set up a \u201cphotography meet\u201d for quite some time but it wasn\u2019t until his bookings were hit by coronavirus cancellations that time presented itself in the form of a networking opportunity.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve noticed that there\u2019s a lot of photographers out there like amateurs and professionals in the area, but there\u2019s also some people who aren\u2019t as well known, and there are people who are just starting out and wanting to get better,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause I\u2019m at home I\u2019ve been going through all of my old photos and spending time doing some edits and clearing out space and I thought to myself \u2018There\u2019s a lot of other people like myself who are probably a bit frustrated who can\u2019t get out there and take the photos they want to take\u2019.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes I think people forget about all the photos they\u2019ve taken in the past. I myself have thousands of photos that I\u2019ve taken over the last four years and at the time, I kind of thought they were nothing photos because I wasn\u2019t as good, and now as I\u2019ve gone back, my editing skills are better and I\u2019ve been able to edit them.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was hoping other people might, in this time, be able to go through some photos, bring back some memories or even start to edit photos that perhaps they\u2019d forgotten about and have just been kept on their computer.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Alex, who trades as <strong>@alexander_shore_photography<\/strong> and runs a surfing blog <strong>@surfing.matters<\/strong>, said by activating the page he hoped he would remind people of the Surf Coast\u2019s picturesque landscapes.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He also said @lifeonthesurfcoast would promote other photographers by sharing their work.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe feedback\u2019s been pretty good, actually. People have been quite excited and even over excited and sending a bunch of photos through to me.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want it to be place where you can get to know people and introduce other photographers, or amateur photographers or just photo takers, really.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve noticed that in the wedding industry and also in photography around here, photographers especially, I thought there\u2019d be a lot of competition there but I\u2019ve found that it\u2019s a lot better when people work together and that\u2019s what I noticed and quite liked about our community is that photographers seem to be able to work alongside each other, recommend each other and so on, and I quite like it functioning like that rather than everyone\u2019s in it for themselves.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like the idea of promoting professional photographers in the area as well, because like me, their businesses would have taken a hit.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Avid photographers who would like to have their snaps posted on <strong>@lifeonthesurfcoast<\/strong> can send their images directly to Alex via the Instagram handle or hashtag #lifeonthesurfcoast on their own posts.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Alex said the content would be handpicked to ensure it best reflected the community.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the shots on there will be handpicked and will be local shots of the coast, local shots of nature and people in nature enjoying life.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/DSC_4801-2_07638.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Torquay-based photographer has created an Instagram handle to connect the field\u2019s amateurs and professionals in one user-friendly place. &nbsp;
