The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra invites choral singers of all ages from around the world to join a virtual choir performance of “Waltzing Matilda” in commemoration of Anzac Day on April 25.<\/p>\n
MSO managing director Sophie Galaise said the global online community event was an opportunity for music lovers at home to become a part of Victoria’s major chorus initiative.<\/p>\n
“The MSO Chorus is known for regularly participating in Melbourne’s Anzac Day dawn service. While we cannot perform live this year, it is more important than ever to bring people together online through the power of music, and a shared experience.”<\/p>\n
”We encourage everyone from around the world to get involved in performing one of Australia’s most well-known musical works. This is a wonderful moment to get together in a virtual space and sing our hearts out.”<\/p>\n
The MSO has commissioned a new arrangement of Banjo Paterson’s anthem from Australian composer Joe Twist in the hope of bringing together members of the MSO, MSO Chorus and singers from countries near and far.<\/p>\n
To become a part of the MSO’s ANZAC Day Virtual Choir, singers are invited to sign up via mso.com.au\/anzac.<\/p>\n
Submissions close on Sunday, April 19. MSO’s ANZAC Day virtual choir will premiere on the MSO’s YouTube channel at 7.30pm on April 24.<\/p>\n
