NETBALL has not escaped the continuing bans on sport during the coronavirus, but the Torquay Tigers are using Instagram to keep their spirits up and inspire their players to keep fit.
\nThe club started on the day it would have otherwise been playing its Round 1 match with an “Almost Netball Legends” TikTok competition, with prizes awarded to the winners.
\nIt is now uploading an introduction and a workout from a different player each Thursday and a game day preparation each Saturday from the same player to its Instagram page (@torquaynetballclub<\/a>), starting with the A Grade side.
\nTorquay Netball Club president Meagan Mifsud said players were already encouraging each other with private messages within sides, but the Instagram posts were a way for the whole club to be involved.
\nShe said the posts were particularly inspirational for the Tigers’ younger netballers, and the circumstances had helped everyone learn more about each other.
\n“We had an online meeting recently with just the committee of eight, and it was amazing just within that group – half of us didn’t know what we did outside of netball.”
\nAFL Barwon is considering restarting the football and netball seasons as early as mid-May, and Mifsud said a return to actual netball would be welcome.
\n“There’s a bit of mild excitement around, but I’m a pessimist – I wrote the season off, so if we get anything, I’ll be pleased.
\n“The playing group is pretty good, everyone’s doing their own thing, but they’re dying to get back on the court.
\n“Nine games (in the 2020 season) would be ideal, but a bit more or a bit less would be fine, even if it’s just for the welfare of the people who watch it; there’s a lot of supporters that come to the games.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
