{"id":31931,"date":"2020-05-07T04:55:23","date_gmt":"2020-05-06T18:55:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=31931"},"modified":"2020-05-06T12:28:58","modified_gmt":"2020-05-06T02:28:58","slug":"frontlinechalksupport-covid-19-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/frontlinechalksupport-covid-19-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"#FrontlineChalkSupport COVID-19 Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MEMBER for Western Victoria Stuart Grimley has launched a competition to keep kids entertained whilst learning from home.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-68581\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/05\/SG2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>The competition will see kids use footpaths and driveways as empty canvases to produce masterpieces using chalk supplied by Mr Grimley\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is just a small thing we can do to make isolation and learning from home easier for kids and parents,\u201d Mr Grimley said.<\/p>\n<p>With the theme #FrontlineChalkSupport, the art competition is also aimed at thanking our emergency services workers, with messages or pictures of thanks to frontline workers necessary to be eligible to run in the competition.<\/p>\n<p>The chosen key message is in response to the risk frontline workers are being subject to during the pandemic and the tragedy last week which saw four police officers lose their lives.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Grimley is a former Victoria Police officer and knows the effects the loss of one of their own can have on the entire Victoria Police family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was a policeman, we appreciated every \u2018thank you\u2019 and act of appreciation for being on the frontline from the community, so I hope our emergency workers see the kind messages displayed on footpaths,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-68582\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/05\/SG1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/>Further, as a former school principal, Mr Grimley knows the importance of creativity in kids\u2019 education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited to see the creativity from our young community members and hopefully some conversations about how our frontline workers are protecting and helping us will continue to grow from this competition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There will be two winners announced on 31 May via Mr Grimley\u2019s social media accounts, with both prizes being a $50 \u201cUltimate Kids Gift Card\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Those interested can contact Mr Grimley\u2019s office via his website <a href=\"https:\/\/stuartgrimley.com\/contact\/\">stuartgrimley.com\/contact<\/a> and a chalk pack will be sent out via post.
