During Reconciliation Week, we\u2019re talking to our students about what NRW is and incorporating it into their learning.\u201d<br \/>\nAccording to the NRW site, Reconciliation Week is \u201ca time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia\u201d.<br \/>\nMs Baillie said this year\u2019s theme is \u201cIn this Together\u201d and while original plans were affected by the restrictions, they decided to go ahead and share stories via film.<br \/>\n\u201cWe spoke to students at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cliftonspringsps.vic.edu.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Clifton Springs Primary School<\/a> (CSPS) and asked what reconciliation means to them. We spoke to Uncle Vince Ross who founded the Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre. He grew up on a mission camp and in speaking to him, not only did we hear his story, we also learned he wanted to hear ours.\u201d<br \/>\nMs Baillie said through filming and conversations she learned more about the \u201ccrazy history\u201d of the Bellarine and while some people may not \u201clook Aboriginal\u201d there\u2019s a reason behind it.<br \/>\n\u201cPeople are still alive that are part of the Stolen Generation, taken from their families to be \u2018bred out\u2019. They may not look Aboriginal but there\u2019s a bad history behind it.<br \/>\n\u201cA lot of the kids we interviewed are learning what it means to be Aboriginal, and the CSPS is doing a great job to help these kids learn about their own culture.\u201d<br \/>\nRichard Fry has worked as a Koori education support officer in the region for 40 years. He said, as an Aboriginal man of Wotjobaluk and Gunditjmara descent, he encouraged the wider community to celebrate Aboriginal culture and history year-round.<br \/>\n\u201cThe message of reconciliation is all about respect, mutual respect. Respect for ones\u2019 self, respect for country, respect for Aboriginal culture,\u201d Mr Fry said.<br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s about acceptance of the past injustices towards Aboriginal people and truth telling of Australia\u2019s history; Aboriginal culture and history is Australia\u2019s history.\u201d<br \/>\nFrom writing their own Acknowledgment to Country, to hosting guest speakers such as Olympic gold medallist and former politician Nova Peris, Ms Parker said the children are supported and encouraged to embrace their history.<br \/>\n\u201cOur pupils are proud and happy to do the Acknowledgement to Country at assembly. I\u2019ve seen the change over the years where students are no longer ashamed or embarrassed to declare they\u2019re Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.\u201d<br \/>\nAs for reconciliation, Ms Parker said an Aboriginal elder once said it best.<br \/>\n\u201cThere doesn\u2019t have to be a \u2018them\u2019 and \u2018us\u2019; there can be a \u2018we\u2019. The Aboriginal elder said \u2018We\u2019re all here together, that\u2019s not going to change anytime soon.
