SUNDAY, June 7 would have seen about 1,500 runners hit the beautiful trails of Forrest, all celebrating afterwards with a hot soup or a local craft beer at the Forrest Soupfest.
\nBut restrictions in place due to COVID-19 has postponed the Run Forrest Trail Run to November 1.
\n\u201cThe event was on track for a sell out as entries opened last November,\u201d race director Mick Sheehan said.
\nThese interruptions haven\u2019t stopped the race organisers Southern Exposure and participants, who are still working towards the new date of November 1.
\nHeading into its ninth year, the event has a strong following of trail runners domestically and from interstate as well as internationally with participants from Sweden and UK taking out recent wins.
\nThis year, Mr Sheehan wants to see it through, moving the event to November 1 for a spring race – a beautiful time of year in Forrest and an opportunity for trail runners to experience the Otways in spring.
\nPopularity of the event is due to the three different course levels (21km, 10km, 6km plus 6km kids course) enabling individuals and families as a group to experience an adventure weekend in the Otways at their own ability and pace.
\nThe economic boost to the Otway region is in excess of $1 million with employment, hospitality and tourism as the Run Forrest introduces individuals and families to the region that may not normally venture this way.
\nRun Forrest is now open for bookings for the newly announced November 1 date and entry is available via the Run Forrest website offering 6km, 10km and 21km courses along the pristine Lake Elizabeth location in Forrest.
