As the cinemas are still closed, I\u2019ll be reviewing recent releases on DVD and streaming platforms. This week, it\u2019s Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em>.<\/h3>\n

Based on Sega\u2019s gaming franchise, this movie follows Sonic (Ben Schwartz), an extra-terrestrial blue hedgehog with the power of super speed.
\nTo avoid those who would steal his powers, Sonic hides on Earth, near the small town of Green Hills, Montana.
\nWhile safe from harm, the lonely little hedgehog can\u2019t help but yearn for companionship.
\nBut after an accidental power surge, Sonic becomes a target of the malicious Dr Robotnik (Jim Carrey).
\nThe supersonic hedgehog must now turn to Green Hills\u2019 sheriff, Tom Wachowski (James Mardsen), to help him evade the mad scientist.
\nThis movie is what I would call silly yet fun.
\nThe plot is rather simple, but it works pretty well, and the characters provide a solid amount of entertainment.
\nBen Schwartz brings such personality to Sonic that you can\u2019t help but love the little guy.
\nJames Marsden was also entertaining as a secondary lead and the relationship his character formed with Sonic was adorable to watch.
\nOn the villain\u2019s side, Jim Carrey<\/a> nailed the flamboyancy and maliciousness of Dr Robotnik. Though a goofy antagonist, he works for this story\u00a0 and brings a good few laughs.
\nWith only one or two exceptions, the special effects are decent and are especially great when it comes to Sonic and the portrayal of his super speed.
\nMovie adaptations of video games have been improving in quality over the years and Sonic the Hedgehog proves to be another step in a positive direction.
\nAdmittedly, this movie won\u2019t be for everyone, but if you are a fan of the Sonic franchise or you\u2019d like something to entertain your kids, then Sonic the Hedgehog<\/em> is a good film to pick out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
