{"id":33138,"date":"2020-07-02T00:57:58","date_gmt":"2020-07-01T14:57:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/my-big-catch-land-a-rainbow-trout-these-school-holidays\/"},"modified":"2020-07-02T10:03:07","modified_gmt":"2020-07-02T00:03:07","slug":"my-big-catch-land-a-rainbow-trout-these-school-holidays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/my-big-catch-land-a-rainbow-trout-these-school-holidays\/","title":{"rendered":"My Big Catch: Land a rainbow trout these school holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>YOUNGSTERS can catch a new hobby these school holidays with the stocking of more than 35,000 catchable size rainbow trout into almost 80 lakes across Victoria thanks to the state government.<br \/>\nMinister for Fishing and Boating Melissa Horne said Ouyen Lake will be stocked with 500 rainbow trout for the first time to provide more freshwater fishing opportunities for people in the state\u2019s<br \/>\nfar northwest.<br \/>\nThe stockings are thanks to recreational fishing licence fees and the Labor Government\u2019s $35 million Target One Million plan to get more people fishing, more often, in more places.<br \/>\nFamily Fishing Lakes boast good access with waterside platforms, walking tracks, picnic areas and other facilities, creating a wonderful environment for people to get some fresh air and explore whilst wetting a line.<br \/>\nThe rainbow trout are grown at the Victorian Fisheries Authority\u2019s (VFA) Snobs Creek hatchery, near Eildon, and delivered for over the school holiday break.<br \/>\nRainbow trout are perfect for those new to fishing because they\u2019re easy to catch and taste great on<br \/>\nthe plate.<br \/>\nStocked waters for these holidays include:<br \/>\n\u2022 Albert Park Lake (1,500) \u2022 Lillydale Lake (1,000) \u2022 Emerald Lake (500) \u2022 Spavan Lake in Sunbury (600) \u2022 Victoria Lake in Shepparton (750) \u2022 Hyland Lake in Churchill (800) \u2022 Pakenham Lake (750) \u2022 St Augustine\u2019s Water Hole in Geelong (750) \u2022 Kennington Reservoir in Bendigo (500) \u2022 Darlingsford Lake in Melton (500) \u2022 Pertobe Lake in Warrnambool (450) \u2022 Yarrambat Lake (1,000) \u2022 Casey Fields Lake in Cranbourne (750) \u2022 Crusoe Reservoir (450) \u2022 Eildon Pondage (1,100+) \u2022 Marysville Lake (450) \u2022 Ouyen Lake (500) \u2022 Tchum Lake in Birchip (1,000)<br \/>\nA daily bag limit of five trout applies to Family Fishing Lakes, of which only two trout can exceed 35cm.<br \/>\nFor more information about catch limits get hold of the 2020 Victorian Recreational Fishing Guide, available free from most tackle shops, online or by downloading the free Vic Fishing app for smartphones.<br \/>\n\u201cCasting a line is a great way to get the kids outside for a few hours these school holidays,\u201d Ms Horne said.<br \/>\n\u201cOur Target One Million plan continues to deliver great things for Victorian fishers, whether you\u2019re enjoying a Family Fishing Lake or chasing snapper in Port Phillip.\u201d<br \/>\nFor the statewide list of stocked waters these holidays, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/vfa.vic.gov.au\/holidaytrout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">vfa.vic.gov.au\/holidaytrout<\/a>.<br \/>\nI would also like to remind everyone also to keep those photos coming in of your own big catch!<br \/>\nWe will now even take older photos of your big catch previously if they have not yet been published.<br \/>\nPhotos: Please forward them to the email address below, with type of fish, weight, length, location, and your name. Email photos to mybigcatch@bigpond.com.<\/p>\n<p>FISHING REPORTS<br \/>\nWeather conditions are still having an impact on catches<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anglesea<\/strong><br \/>\nReports of a few whiting being caught<br \/>\nA few pinkies are also being caught<br \/>\nA few trevally are also being caught<br \/>\nSalmon catches off the beaches including the point continue.<br \/>\n<em>Thanks to the Rusty Anglers Angling Club Anglesea<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Barwon Heads<\/strong><br \/>\nReports out of Ocean Grove are pretty much the same<br \/>\nA few snapper are being reported<br \/>\nFlathead are also still being reported<br \/>\nSome nice whiting to be had offshore but in close<br \/>\nOff the beaches, salmon are still around<br \/>\nSome school shark have also been reported<br \/>\nSome small whiting and some trevally reported.<br \/>\n<em>Reports compliments of the Ocean Grove Angling Club<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Torquay<\/strong><br \/>\nWhiting are still being caught<br \/>\nA few pinkies have also been reported<br \/>\nFlathead reports are still being received<br \/>\nSalmon continue off local beaches<br \/>\nSpring Creek reports some small bream.<br \/>\n<em>Reports compliments of the Torquay Angling Club<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Queenscliff<\/strong><br \/>\nSt Leonards reports King George whiting, flathead, squid, as well as a few snapper and some school sharks as well<br \/>\nClifton Springs is still seeing a few snapper, along with some whiting, calamari, gummy shark, and the occasional flathead<br \/>\nQueenscliff reports are still of whiting, trevally, flathead, and a few squid<br \/>\nThe Creek is seeing only a few trevally and salmon on occasions<br \/>\nSwan Bay report some calamari, plus a few whiting and flathead near the mouth<br \/>\nPoint Lonsdale reports salmon, plus a few trevally, whiting and snapper<br \/>\nThe White Lady is said to be producing a few whiting, calamari, and some snapper<br \/>\nIndented Head is still seeing some reports of flathead, a few King George whiting, snapper and the odd calamari.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fishing club corner<\/strong><br \/>\nN\/A<br \/>\nRemember: if you are an angling club and you wish to let people know what\u2019s going on within your club as well as help promote your club, just email mybigcatch@mybigcatch.com.au and we will post your club news here.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>YOUNGSTERS can catch a new hobby these school holidays with the stocking of more than 35,000 catchable size rainbow trout into almost 80 lakes across Victoria thanks to the state government.
