THE Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CMA) has launched a new Community Engagement Network (CEN) to improve community input and perspectives on how the Corangamite region\u2019s natural resources are managed.
\nThe CMA is looking for a cross-section of people from the region \u2013 which stretches from Geelong to Ballarat and along the Surf Coast to Peterborough \u2013 to join in the network.
\nA diverse range of views and skills are needed for the network, and individuals who farm, fish, are involved in forestry, interested in conservation or simply like to go camping are encouraged to apply.
\nThe CEN will run for a three-year term, and Corangamite CMA chief executive officer John Riddiford is encouraging anyone who has a connection to the environment to consider putting in an application.
\nThe CEN will not be strenuous on participants and there will be two gatherings a year. The first network gathering is planned for later this year.
\nThe forum will provide members the opportunity to exchange views and give input on issues facing the community such as the renewal of the Regional Catchment Strategy, which will be starting later this year.
\n\u201cAs a Catchment Management Authority, our key role is to improve the health of our natural resources and sustainable productivity of the Corangamite region. We can only achieve this by working with the community,\u201d Mr Riddiford said.
\n\u201cYou might run a business that uses natural resources or be employed by one. You might be a farmer or like to relax by bushwalking or bird watching or be part of an outdoor club. All of these provide a unique insight into our
\nnatural resources.\u201d
\nApplications for the CEN are now open and will close on July 31. Members will be appointed by the Corangamite CMA board and will be remunerated for their contribution.
