Spanning 60 metres across Campbells Creek, the bridge provides vital year-round access between Port Campbell and the coastal discovery walk in the Port Campbell National Park.<br \/>\nThe bridge design and materials were chosen in harmony with the surrounding landscape and the historical swing bridge that once stood in its place.<br \/>\nThe new bridge is the first project to be delivered as part of the state government\u2019s $9.8 million investment in Stage One of the Shipwreck Coast Master Plan.<br \/>\nThe master plan is predicted to deliver millions in annual additional spending in the area and create up to 3,800 Victorian jobs.<br \/>\nWorks have also been completed on a major refurbishment of the Maits Rest visitor area that opened on July 4.<br \/>\nMaits Rest is an important regional tourism destination that draws more than 150,000 visitors a year.<br \/>\nWorks at the site have replaced 800 metres of boardwalk and added raised viewing platforms protecting the forest understorey and providing animal corridors.<br \/>\nThe Maits Rest upgrade follows works to improve visitor facilities at nearby Melba Gully, completing a $2.2 million investment in the 100,000-hectare national park.<br \/>\n\u201cThese projects and ongoing investments through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shipwreckcoast.vic.gov.au\/shipwreck-coast-master-plan-an-overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Shipwreck Coast Master Plan<\/a> are supporting jobs, regional businesses and greater connection with the environment,\u201d Minister for Energy, the Environment and Climate Change Lily D\u2019Ambrosio said,<br \/>\n\u201cThe Port Campbell costal discovery walk is a truly memorable experience immersed in nature, while the raised boardwalk at Maits Rest is excellent for visitors, the environment and our native animals.\u201d<br \/>\nMember for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney said the two projects would provide ongoing benefits for local communities and the environment in Victoria\u2019s beautiful south west.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than $6 million in works for the Port Campbell Pedestrian Bridge and refurbishment of Maits Rest rainforest boardwalk have been completed.
