{"id":33316,"date":"2020-07-09T10:56:01","date_gmt":"2020-07-09T00:56:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/my-big-catch-a-new-minister-for-fishing-and-boating\/"},"modified":"2020-07-09T14:48:57","modified_gmt":"2020-07-09T04:48:57","slug":"my-big-catch-a-new-minister-for-fishing-and-boating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/my-big-catch-a-new-minister-for-fishing-and-boating\/","title":{"rendered":"My Big Catch: A new minister for fishing and boating"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOR those that may have missed it, we have a new Minister for Fishing and Boating after Premier Daniel Andrews announced a cabinet reshuffle on June 22 because of a major scandal, which claimed three ministers and sparked a police investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Jaala Pulford, who held the fisheries portfolio since 2014, has now been moved to Small Business, Innovation, Medical Research, and the Digital Economy, with the Victorian Fisheries Authority also becoming a standalone statutory authority.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Pulford leaves with the best wishes of most of the fishing fraternity.<\/p>\n<p>However, with all the discussion around the COVID-19 virus, quarantine failure and the causes behind it, not as much attention has been given to this announcement as to who the new minister is and what she brings to her new position.<\/p>\n<p>So, for those that want to know and have yet to hear, the new Minister for Fishing and Boating is <a href=\"https:\/\/parliament.vic.gov.au\/about\/people-in-parliament\/members-search\/list-all-legislative-assembly-members\/details\/22\/1725\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Melissa Horne<\/a>, who was moved from her role as Public Transport Minister by the Premier.<\/p>\n<p>Her current portfolios comprise:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minister for Ports and Freight<\/li>\n<li>Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation<\/li>\n<li>The local member for Williamstown<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And now she is your Minister for Fishing and Boating. We can only wait to see how she performs, and hope she is as good as a performer as Jaala Pulford.<\/p>\n<p>I would also like to remind everyone also to keep those photos coming in of your own big catch! Email photos to mybigcatch@bigpond.com.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fishing Reports<\/strong><br \/>\nWeather conditions are still having an effect on catches<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea<br \/>\nA few whiting were being caught<br \/>\nAs were pinkies<br \/>\nReports trevally were also being caught<br \/>\nA few flathead as well<br \/>\nSalmon catches off the beaches continue<br \/>\nThe odd gummy shark has also been reported.<br \/>\nThanks to the Rusty Anglers Angling Club Anglesea<\/p>\n<p>Barwon Heads<br \/>\nReports out of Ocean Grove are pretty much the same<br \/>\nReports of a few snapper prior to the turn in the weather<br \/>\nSame with flathead<br \/>\nWhiting were to be had offshore in close<br \/>\nSalmon are still around<br \/>\nA few small whiting and trevally reported in the river.<br \/>\nReports compliments of the Ocean Grove Angling Club<\/p>\n<p>Torquay<br \/>\nWeather has had a big effect on fishing<br \/>\nWhiting were being caught<br \/>\nAs where pinkies<br \/>\nFlathead reports are few<br \/>\nSalmon are still being caught off local beaches<br \/>\nSpring Creek reports small bream.<br \/>\nReports compliments of the Torquay Angling Club<\/p>\n<p>Queenscliff<br \/>\nSt Leonards reports, when fishers get out, consist of King George whiting, flathead, squid, plus a few snapper<br \/>\nClifton Springs has a few snapper along with whiting, calamari, gummy shark, and the occasional flathead but reports are few and far between<br \/>\nQueenscliff is the same as above with whiting, trevally, flathead, and a few squid reported<br \/>\nThe Creek still sees a few trevally and salmon<br \/>\nSwan Bay was seeing a few calamari, whiting and flathead near the mouth<br \/>\nPoint Lonsdale was reporting a few salmon, trevally, whiting and snapper<br \/>\nThe White Lady is said to be still producing a few whiting, calamari and some snapper<br \/>\nIndented Head was reporting flathead, a few King George whiting, snapper and the odd calamari.<\/p>\n<p>Fishing Club Corner<br \/>\nN\/A<br \/>\nRemember: If you are an angling club and you wish to let people know what\u2019s going on within your club as well as help promote your club, just email mybigcatch@mybigcatch.com.au and we will post your club news here.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FOR those that may have missed it, we have a new Minister for Fishing and Boating after Premier Daniel Andrews announced a cabinet reshuffle on June 22 because of a major scandal, which claimed three ministers and sparked a police investigation.
