{"id":34071,"date":"2020-08-13T00:20:42","date_gmt":"2020-08-12T14:20:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=34071"},"modified":"2020-08-12T21:35:25","modified_gmt":"2020-08-12T11:35:25","slug":"event-host-applications-geelong-design-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/event-host-applications-geelong-design-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Event host applications open for 2021 Geelong Design Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Geelong council is inviting applications from organisations, community groups and individuals to participate as event hosts for next year&#8217;s Geelong Design Week.<br \/>\nTo be held from March 18-28, 2021, Geelong Design Week will celebrate how design can help us adapt and respond creatively to the unpredictable.<br \/>\nEvents in the week &#8211; which has the theme &#8220;Unpredictable&#8221; &#8211; could include art and design exhibitions, workshops, virtual reality tours, fashion collaborations, sustainable building workshops, innovative dining experiences, projections, pop-up spaces and forums.<br \/>\nEvents will showcase Geelong\u2019s UNESCO City of Design designation, celebrating innovation, ideas and adaptations in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Technology, innovation and manufacturing<\/li>\n<li>Culture and heritage<\/li>\n<li>Social and community services<\/li>\n<li>Equity, inclusiveness and encounter in the built environment: how we experience buildings and the spaces between them<\/li>\n<li>Learning, knowledge and research<\/li>\n<li>Sustainability: human, social, economic, environmental and ecological<\/li>\n<li>Food and gastronomy, and<\/li>\n<li>Art, craft, fashion, visual communication and multimedia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The first Geelong Design Week was scheduled to be held from March 19-29 this year, but was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.<br \/>\n&#8220;With full event support provided by the City of Greater Geelong, this is an opportunity to engage with a wide audience and champion the creativity and innovation that makes Geelong a UNESCO City of Design,&#8221; Arts, Culture and Heritage portfolio chair Cr Trent Sullivan said.<br \/>\n&#8220;Geelong Design Week\u2019s 2021 theme \u2018Unpredictable\u2019 will showcase how design can turn challenges into opportunities.&#8221;<br \/>\nEvent host applications are open until September 18 at <a href=\"http:\/\/geelongdesignweek.com.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">geelongdesignweek.com.au<\/a><br \/>\nThe council is hosting virtual drop-in sessions throughout the application period to support people who need assistance with their application or have a question about hosting a Geelong Design Week event.
