{"id":34077,"date":"2020-08-13T00:57:08","date_gmt":"2020-08-12T14:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=34077"},"modified":"2020-08-12T22:02:35","modified_gmt":"2020-08-12T12:02:35","slug":"rotary-club-of-ocean-grove-presents-awards-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/rotary-club-of-ocean-grove-presents-awards-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Rotary Club of Ocean Grove presents Awards of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Rotary Club of Ocean Grove has recognised some of the area&#8217;s hardest-working members with its 2020 Awards of the Year.<br \/>\nLola Fisher from the Ocean Grove Barwon Heads RSL was named as Volunteer of the Year.<br \/>\nLola has been involved with the Ocean Grove RSL for 12 years and has worked with war veterans and their widows, including those who recently served in Afghanistan.<br \/>\nThe runner-up for the award was Pamela Healy from the Parkinson&#8217;s self-help group.<br \/>\nMs Healy has been responsible for initiating &#8220;The Parkin-song&#8221;, which is an hour-long singing session which takes place before the monthly meetings.<br \/>\nRotary Club of Ocean Grove&#8217;s Xenia Williamson said both women provided outstanding service to the community through their respective groups.<br \/>\nKim Kosta from the Bellarine Training and Community Hub (formerly Neighbourhood Centre) was presented with the Pride of Workmanship award.<br \/>\n&#8220;Kim is a highly motivated person who claims that her job is the one that everyone is looking for once in their career,&#8221; Ms Williamson said.<br \/>\n&#8220;This award is all about customers and employers recognising employees that go above and beyond what is expected and delivering exceptional service.&#8221;<br \/>\nRachelle Calleja from the Telstra Shop (now Bay I.T.) was runner-up.<br \/>\nThe Small Business Excellence Award was presented to the Beach Terrace Cafe in Ocean Grove.<br \/>\nThe runner up was Von Ruby Headquarters, a well-known hairdressing salon in Ocean Grove.<br \/>\n&#8220;There were record nominations in this category, and the competition was very close,&#8221; Ms Williamson said.<br \/>\nBoth these businesses were well supported in nominations with their customers commenting on their high level of service, product quality and sustainable practices.<br \/>\nThis award was presented by Ocean Grove Business Association president Ty Simmons and Geelong Chamber of Commerce president Mark Edmonds<br \/>\nThe Apprentice of the Year was Kyle Kermeen from Dave Purdie Electrical, with Otto Opperman from Econ Constructions runner-up.<br \/>\n&#8220;Both Kyle and Otto showed a great aptitude for their respective trades as well as a terrific work ethic and above all, a willingness to learn,&#8221; Ms Williamson said.<br \/>\nNominations for the 2021 Awards will open in November, and all Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Wallington, Point Lonsdale and Queenscliffe residents are encouraged to make a nomination.
