VICTORIAN Premier Daniel Andrews has urged people to keep following the rules of the coronavirus lockdown, and said people doing the right things was making a difference.
\nSpeaking at a press conference on Monday this week, Mr Andrews said he was proud of “every single Victorian doing the right thing, coming forward getting tested is as soon as they get symptoms, staying home, observing the curfew, all of those rules”.
\n“That is why we have a one in front of these numbers, and we are on the verge of getting into double digits.
\n“It wasn\u2019t that long ago that we had more than 700 cases on a given day.”
\nHe said it was a very difficult day for the families of people that had died from the coronavirus.
\n“It is a very difficult day for many other Victorians out of work, who have a sense of uncertainty, and indeed a fatigue, but if we don\u2019t see this through, if we don\u2019t stay the course, then all of that sacrifice, all of that pain and loss, will be for nothing.”
\nThe number of daily coronavirus tests carried out across the state dipped below the 15,000 mark on Tuesday, and the weekend’s bad weather is being cited as a factor.
\nOn Tuesday, Victorian Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton said there were 148 cases recorded on Tuesday compared to 116 on Monday, but the seven-day trend was clearly trending down.
\n“I think I expressed my hope that we\u2019d be under 150 next week \u2013 last week \u2013 and we\u2019re here now. So it is encouraging to see these numbers. They will go up and down.
\n“We do have some lower testing numbers that might mean that this number even increases in the next couple of days if people can come forward for testing today and tomorrow.
\n“We absolutely want to encourage that. We want to find every single case that\u2019s out there.”
\nThis week, the Department of Health and Human Services launched a dashboard on its website that includes case locations, outbreaks, hospitalisations, deaths, and testing figures by local government area.As of Tuesday this week, there have been three confirmed cases and 546 tests carried out in the Surf Coast Shire over the previous two weeks.
