TELSTRA has expanded its 5G network, announcing it has just switched on towers to cover Wallington, Connewarre, Moolap, Corio and Grovedale.
\nMost of central and northern Geelong is now covered by the latest cellular network technology, with Telstra’s 5G coverage on the Bellarine so far rolled out in two distinct areas – a section south of Drysdale and north of Mannerim, and another larger section starting in and including Curlewis and extending south to cover Wallington and Ocean Grove (but not Barwon Heads).
\nTelstra’s 5G rollout map indicates coming 5G rollouts will take place in eastern Barwon Heads, and Waurn Ponds.
\n\u201cWe\u2019re pushing ahead with the roll out of Telstra 5G across Geelong and the Bellarine as well as the Surf Coast and we\u2019re reaching more and more people with the next generation of mobile technology,\u201d Telstra regional general manager Loretta Willaton said.
\n\u201cEvery week, we\u2019re expanding Telstra 5G to more areas so, as more 5G devices go on sale, our customers can have the latest devices on Australia\u2019s best network.
\n\u201cWe\u2019ve made a commitment to roll out the new Telstra 5G network to more areas of Victoria so we\u2019ll continue expanding our 5G network to new parts of Geelong and the Bellarine as well as the Surf Coast.\u201d
\nThere are now more than 1,500 Telstra 5G sites live across selected areas of 53 Australian cities and towns.
\nMore than 1,000 suburbs nationally are more than half covered by Telstra 5G and more than 10 million people live, work or pass through Telstra\u2019s 5G footprint every day.
\nIn the five years to end June 2020, Telstra invested $7.5 billion in its mobile network nationally.
\nEarlier this year, the telco brought forward $500 million of capital expenditure into the 2020 calendar year to help accelerate the 5G rollout.
