THE team at Clifton Springs Golf Club has launched an initiative to inject some positivity and hope back into the local community.
\nThe Community Care Project encourages people to make someone else’s week by nominating them for a Community Care Box.
\nEach box is a care package delivered to a person in need and includes enough meals to feed a family for four for seven days, a voucher for 18 holes of golf for two people, an iTunes voucher, and goodies from local suppliers including Caf\u00e9 Zoo, Miss Lilly Pilly Florist, Jenkins Fish, Tavid\u2019s Printing, Aged Meat Co and Bellarine Estate Winery.
\nPeople nominate someone who they feel needs or deserves it from the local area and the reason why, and their nomination will be eligible to receive one of the four Community Care Boxes.
\nClifton Springs Golf Club general manager Danny Zernich said the club’s staff were fortunate to be working, as there were many others who were not as fortunate.
\n\u201cWe are a local community club, as opposed to a business, and I thought it was time for us to give something back – even though it\u2019s not an astronomical amount \u2013 to those who do support us.
\n\u201cOur customers \u2013 I see them every single day, I know who they are, they\u2019re not strangers to us; they\u2019re part of our club. So I was hoping that with some of our suppliers, we could put some joy back into their lives, as little as it may be.
\n\u201cI approached our local suppliers, and people like Caf\u00e9 Zoo<\/a>, who are probably doing it tougher than we are, jumped straight on board. Everyone has the same intent \u2013 to give a little bit back if we can.\u201d
\nThe first two Community Care Project boxes were sent out on Monday this week. Mr Zernich said choosing who would receive them was not easy.
\n“We\u2019re not picking winners of a competition here; we\u2019re reading notes from distraught people who are down on their luck.
\n\u201cI knew there were hard times out there but I didn\u2019t know there were so many sad stories out there. There\u2019s amazing people out there doing it tough not just because of COVID, but in everyday life. We\u2019re talking about people who are doing good for themselves and for the community, and the community have responded for them to receive a little bit of relief.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s definitely going to achieve what I want, but I\u2019m sorry I can\u2019t do more.\u201d
\nClifton Springs Golf Club is also partnering with the Salvation Army to donate five Family In Need boxes, which includes home-delivered meals plus a $50 Woolworths voucher that can be used at the family’s own convenience or by a staff member from Clifton Springs Golf Club to purchase shopping on their behalf.
