{"id":35696,"date":"2020-10-17T17:49:28","date_gmt":"2020-10-17T07:49:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/third-attempt-at-v8s-holy-grail-for-de-pasquale\/"},"modified":"2020-10-18T08:58:22","modified_gmt":"2020-10-17T22:58:22","slug":"third-attempt-at-v8s-holy-grail-for-de-pasquale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/third-attempt-at-v8s-holy-grail-for-de-pasquale\/","title":{"rendered":"Third attempt at V8\u2019s Holy Grail for de Pasquale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT\u2019S A long way from the fertile fields of Werribee South to the bitumen of Bathurst but local Supercars star Anton de Pasquale is primed to become the latest \u2018King of the Mountain\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>But if he does conquer the iconic 1000km race his parents won\u2019t be there to witness the achievement.<br \/>\nMelbourne\u2019s coronavirus restrictions have prevented Michelle and Sam de Pasquale from making their annual pilgrimage to Mount Panorama, instead they\u2019ll be confined to the couch in the loungeroom of their family farm.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_43684\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43684\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-43684\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/IMG-8743-300x236.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-43684\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anton and his father Sam on the family farm.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll just put on the tv, have our own little barbie and FaceTime with our friends because they\u2019ll be watching too,\u201d Mrs de Pasquale said.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019ll do the cheese and the platter\u2026 we\u2019ll still celebrate but it\u2019s just not the same because we\u2019ll miss the atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year will mark Anton\u2019s third attempt at V8\u2019s Holy Grail and it\u2019s his best chance of success yet.<br \/>\nEarlier in the season the 25-year-old broke through for his maiden Supercars race win and he\u2019s on track for a career-high finish in the Championship. The Holden driver is currently 8<sup>th<\/sup> in the standings with Bathurst doubling as the final race of the truncated season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s had quite a few podiums this year and we haven\u2019t been there so we just high five at home. You miss all that but he\u2019s doing what he loves,\u201d Mrs de Pasquale said.<\/p>\n<p>Anton and his Penrite Racing teammates made an eleventh-hour dash across the border into NSW in July as the sport scrambled to evade border restrictions and keep the season alive. He has been living out of a suitcase since.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though he\u2019s not home all the time because he\u2019s racing, it\u2019s strange without him. The dogs are always looking for him and stuff like that, we do miss him,\u201d Mrs de Pasquale said.<\/p>\n<p>The family\u2019s artichoke and cauliflower production also misses the extra set of hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis racing comes first and the drivers don\u2019t have a lot of free time but if we do need him he will always get out there and help,\u201d Mrs de Pasquale said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_43685\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43685\" style=\"width: 236px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-43685\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/IMG-8745-236x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-43685\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anton and his parents at Bathurst.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For now Anton has a bigger job at hand \u2013 securing the Peter Brock Trophy alongside co-driver and great mate Brodie Kostecki.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love them to win,\u201d Mrs de Pasquale said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s emotional because everyone works so hard so to see them get that reward for all the effort they put in, that\u2019s what you get emotional for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be an amazing reward for the team because they\u2019ve been on the road as well and have kids and stuff.
