JETSTAR flights will resume at Avalon Airport for the first time in nine months, following news of the coming reopening of the Victoria-NSW border.<\/p>\n

From December 18, two return flights will travel to Sydney each day, marking another step toward normality for the Greater Geelong community.<\/p>\n

Jetstar chief executive officer Gareth Evans said there had been a \u201chuge demand\u201d since the announcement borders would reopen on November 23.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re excited to bring back low fares to Avalon, helping to reconnect family and friends and give more people the opportunity for a holiday after what has been a tough period for many.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs well as providing a direct link to Sydney, the resumption of services will help boost tourism back into Victoria, with Avalon being the gateway to the state\u2019s famous Great Ocean Road.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is welcome news for the company as they prepare for their first flights between the destinations since March 31.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an exciting milestone in rebuilding our network \u2013 providing more low fares to more people and also getting more of our team back at work,\u201d Mr Evans said.<\/p>\n

According to Avalon Airport chief executive officer Justin Giddings, the airport has made several changes to their operating systems in preparation for the reopening.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been busy adapting to a COVID world, with significant upgrades to the check-in infrastructure, security systems and social distancing protocols. This includes a CT scanner that allows passengers to leave their laptops in their bags, as well as the option to use touchless check in kiosks and auto bag drops.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the first two hours of parking would be free and five dollars a day thereafter for the first month of operations.<\/p>\n

\u201c2020 has been a tough year for all, and we can\u2019t wait to see so many people, separated due to state border restrictions, be reunited with loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n
