<\/p>\nTORQUAY Football Club is honoured to be given the opportunity to host one of the Good Friday season-opening matches in the Bellarine Football Netball League.<\/p>\n
The Tigers will take on Ocean Grove at Spring Creek Reserve in the second Good Friday match that will kick-start the BFNL season.<\/p>\n
Torquay coach Dom Gleeson said there was always plenty of anticipation surrounding the start of a season, but to be entrusted with such a fixture is something the club is stoked about.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really happy as a club to be allocated a game like that one,\u201d Gleeson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have proven we can do it (host marquee fixtures) well.<\/p>\n
\u201cAFL Barwon have been good enough to give us the game.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood Friday is one of those days where Torquay as a town is thriving over that weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt does the football club the world of good.\u201d<\/p>\n
Portarlington and Newcomb is the other Good Friday match, on April 2.<\/p>\n
In the Geelong Football League, St Mary\u2019s will host Leopold under lights on Saturday, April 10 to begin the season.<\/p>\n
The only other match on that weekend will be St Albans versus Colac, being played at 2.10pm.<\/p>\n
Leopold coach Jason Tom said the excitement around the group was building, and that was evident in the numbers at training.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt shows in our numbers more than anything, we\u2019ve had some of the biggest numbers I\u2019ve seen at the club,\u201d Tom said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s a reflection of missing a year of footy\u2026 speaking to the guys, they\u2019re just excited to play footy.<\/p>\n
Remaining round one GFL action will take place on the following weekend, including a Sunday game.<\/p>\n
In the Geelong and District Football Netball League, round one matches will be played on April 10 while Corio will host Belmont on Sunday, April 11.<\/p>\n
East Geelong A grade netball coach Dave Boyce said after missing a year of local sport, everyone at the club was eager to get back into it.<\/p>\n
His side will face powerhouse Thomson in the first round in what bodes to be one of the matches of the season-opening fixture.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think because we\u2019ve had the whole year off\u2026 the season is a couple of months away, and the girls are really starting to look forward to it.<\/p>\n
