WESTERN United and the City of Greater Geelong have further strengthened their relationship entering a new partnership as the club grows its ties with the Geelong region.<\/p>\n
The partnership aims to help United build attendance at its home matches at Kardinia Park while generating economic gains for Geelong. United is in its second season of the A-League competition, having already played one match in Geelong on December 28.<\/p>\n
Western United will play a further four matches at Kardinia Park this season, with the next fixture taking place on Saturday, January 23 against Perth Glory.<\/p>\n
Greater Geelong mayor Stephanie Asher said Western United was already making significant strides into the Geelong sporting landscape.<\/p>\n
\u201cWestern United is our home A-League team and they\u2019ve done a great job engaging with the local community during their short history so far,\u201d Ms Asher said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery Western United game in Geelong attracts visitors to our city and brings national TV exposure, while helping to build local participation in the sport of football.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis partnership cements the club\u2019s relationship with the city and will bring benefits for the club and our local economy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Western United director of football Steve Horvat said continuing to build its relationship with Geelong was important and this partnership was another way to grow the game in the region.<\/p>\n
“Geelong will go down in history as the place where Western United played its first ever home game and we want to continue to have an ongoing relationship,\u201d Mr Horvat said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have created a real home ground feel at GMHBA Stadium and this partnership will continue to develop that for both the players and fans.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of the sponsorship agreement, which is being delivered via Geelong Major Events, the Western United colours and brand will be promoted through the City\u2019s banner and billboard programs. Geelong promotional material will be shown in-stadium during United home matches.<\/p>\n
Remaining local fixtures include a clash with the Central Coast Mariners on April 23, while two more matches \u2013 against Macarthur FC and the Newcastle Jets \u2013 are still to be rescheduled having been postponed earlier this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
