THE 13th E.J.Whitten Foundation Charity Golf Day will take place in just over a fortnight\u2019s time at Portarlington Golf Club.<\/p>\n

The event, to be held on February 19, will attract up to 120 local and corporate golfers and sportspeople to the Bellarine Peninsula for a fun-filled day of golf and men\u2019s health awareness.<\/p>\n

Ted Whitten Jr, founder and executive director of the E.J. Whitten Foundation, visited the Portarlington Golf Club on the weekend.<\/p>\n

He said the annual event was a fantastic day and very well supported every year.<\/p>\n

As well playing for a good cause, participants will enjoy breakfast prepared by the local Lions Club from 7am, 18 holes of golf, and then a hot buffet lunch before entertainment, fundraising and golf presentations.<\/p>\n

The E.J Whitten Foundation<\/a> – set up in honour of Mr Whitten\u2019s father, football legend E.J. \u201cTed\u201d Whitten – aims to build awareness of men\u2019s health and inspire men to take charge of their own individual health by starting an annual health and prostate check up with their local GP upon reaching 50 years of age.<\/p>\n

Foundation chief executive officer Nick Holland said funds raised from this year\u2019s event would contribute to the Foundation\u2019s awareness programs specifically aimed at the research and treatment of prostate cancer, a disease that kills 66 men a week in Australia.<\/p>\n

The special guest speaker this year will be AFL champion and media personality Doug Hawkins, who will entertain all in attendance and will be the highlight of the lunch.<\/p>\n

The major sponsor will again be The Drain Man, which has been a great supporter of the E.J.Whitten Foundation for many years.<\/p>\n

The work of the E.J. Whitten Foundation in the community could not occur without the generous support from its sponsors: The Drain Man, PC Mobile Welding, Portarlington Beach Motel, Carlton and United Breweries, Port Phillip Ferries and the Portarlington Golf Club.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would urge everyone to get involved in the day to support a very important cause and enjoy a what is sure to be another successful event for the E.J.Whitten Foundation on the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula,\u201d Mr Whitten said.<\/p>\n
