AN INFORMATION session will be held this week to give locals a chance to view how their feedback will help shape Drysdale’s new multi-million dollar library.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, February 6, people will have the opportunity to see the proposed design of the estimated $9.15 million dollar library, as well as ask questions about the development.<\/p>\n
City of Greater Geelong acting mayor Trent Sullivan said Saturday’s information session would allow Bellarine residents to see how their feedback has assisted in shaping new community infrastructure.<\/p>\n
“We know that libraries are not only great spaces to learn but also places to nurture your imagination, access a variety of free educational programs and somewhere to feel safe and included,” Cr Sullivan said.<\/p>\n
“Developing this new and improved facility is perfect timing for the Bellarine community, and I thank residents that have helped shape the design and purpose of the new library to date.”<\/p>\n
A new community library was earmarked as a high priority in the Geelong Regional Library Corporation’s Library Infrastructure Development Plan of 2019.<\/p>\n
Residents submitted their feedback to the council in September 2020, where they answered questions about what they valued most about the existing library, as well as what they wanted to see in the new development.<\/p>\n
The community’s response has helped shape the design of the new library located in the Drysdale town square, which has been developed in collaboration with Antarctica and Architecture Associates.<\/p>\n
Geelong Regional Library Corporation chief executive officer Patti Manolis expressed excitement for the expansion of services that will be offered through the new development.<\/p>\n
“Geelong Regional Library Corporation is pleased to be involved with this innovative project and is working in partnership with the city to deliver features and services the community need and expect of a modern library branch,” Ms Manolis said.<\/p>\n
“We’re excited for the community to see the inspiring design, which will provide a beautiful, functional and much larger library for the Drysdale community and enable us to expand our library services and programs.”<\/p>\n
The new library will continue to service residents in Drysdale, Clifton Springs, Curlewis and northern Bellarine suburbs.<\/p>\n
Saturday’s session will take place at the Drysdale Senior Citizens Centre between 9am-noon.<\/p>\n
“I encourage everyone to attend one of the drop-in sessions to see the designs and find out more,” Cr Sullivan said.<\/p>\n
