{"id":38005,"date":"2021-03-11T00:35:33","date_gmt":"2021-03-10T13:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/lorne-slsc-thinks-pink-for-international-womens-day\/"},"modified":"2021-03-11T00:35:33","modified_gmt":"2021-03-10T13:35:33","slug":"lorne-slsc-thinks-pink-for-international-womens-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/lorne-slsc-thinks-pink-for-international-womens-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Lorne SLSC thinks pink for International Women\u2019s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Lorne SLSC has celebrated its female lifesavers with a special \u201cPink Patrol\u201d to recognise International Women\u2019s Day (IWD).<\/p>\n<p>The four-and-a-half hour all-female patrol at Lorne on Saturday, only two days earlier than IWD itself on March 8, was one of four hosted by clubs across the state over the weekend with the support of <a href=\"https:\/\/lsv.com.au\/\">Life Saving Victoria<\/a> (LSV).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-49875 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/03\/Untitled-design-15-2-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lorne SLSC captain Sam Aschhoff said the patrol featured about 30 lifesavers and was an important way to acknowledge the efforts of the club\u2019s female members.<\/p>\n<p>The show of support also extended to the skies, with the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter service specially wrapped and patrolling in pink for the occasion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-49876 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/surfcoasttimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/03\/Untitled-design-16-2-1024x538.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPink Patrols are made up of all female personnel or female-led patrols and symbolise how integral women are in lifesaving,\u201d LSV director of membership and leadership development Angela Malan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir goal is to build female operational capacity, provide positive female role models for future generations of life savers and build diversity in active operational and leadership roles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen have been played an essential part in the evolution of life saving in Victoria during the past 125 years, and today make up about 50 per cent of our volunteer membership, so it\u2019s great to be able to celebrate their important contribution to the life saving movement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Lorne SLSC has celebrated its female lifesavers with a special \u201cPink Patrol\u201d to recognise International Women\u2019s Day (IWD).
