APPLICATIONS for the WDEA Works Foundation Community Grants program are now open.<\/p>\n

The grants are for projects, events or activities which improve access and opportunity for people living with a disability.<\/p>\n

Community organisations, sporting clubs and not-for-profits are encouraged to apply for a grant of up to $5,000, with a total of $100,000 worth of grants available.<\/p>\n

Since 2004, the foundation has provided grants to assist a range of community projects.<\/p>\n

Some of those include installing disabled toilets, ramps to improve venue access, helping to fund an event trailer for the Greater South Coast Victoria Disabled Surfers Association, a new kitchen for the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion in Bendigo, support for the Centre of Participation\u2019s P21 Learner Driver Program in Horsham, the Passport to Employment program in Colac, and a laptop for the Warrnambool Hospice Volunteer Training Program.<\/p>\n

The WDEA Works Foundation has put more than $1.2 million in funding back into local communities.
\nAs a community focused, not-for-profit organisation, the foundation is just one of the ways WDEA Works supports its regional communities.<\/p>\n

Andrea Hogan, WDEA Works director of communications and engagement, said the foundation grants were a wonderful way to give back.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year we continue to be amazed by the calibre of applicants and the wonderful programs, projects and events which clubs and organisations are seeking funding for,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know 2020 was a tough year so we\u2019re hoping we can provide some relief through these grants; ensuring that projects improving access and opportunity for people living with a disability go ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n

A previous successful grant recipient was the Warrnambool Tri Club.<\/p>\n

With the help of a WDEA Works Foundation community grant, the club was able to offer free entry to its All-Abilities Triathlon, allowing a diverse range of people to compete.<\/p>\n

Ian Barnes, president of the Warrnambool Tri Club, says the all-abilities event was a highlight of the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe support truly opened up the sport of Triathlon to all members of our local community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a club we pride ourselves on our welcoming and inclusive nature \u2013 and we are so proud of this event.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe joy and satisfaction on the participant\u2019s faces \u2013 a highlight of the day\u2019s events.\u201d<\/p>\n
